If you haven’t noticed your favourite lolly has been quietly disappearing from stores, it’s about to become obvious. Woolworths removed them from shelves all the way back in 2015, and now, Coles is following suit.
“Unfortunately, we can confirm that Starburst varieties have been removed from our national range,” a Coles spokesperson wrote on facebook. “We can understand how frustrating it can be to see a favourite product disappear from the shelf and we can assure you that this decision is not one made lightly.”
“Is this some kind of sick joke?” asked twitter user @PaulDStewart14. It certainly seems like one.
While snakes and jelly babies are still on the market in the form of Allens and home brand, there is not and will never be a substitute for the tightly-wrapped squares of chewy flavour-bursting goodness.
Let’s be honest, you probably have an opened packet filled just with leftover yellow Starbursts, but before you go searching to try and sell them for exorbitant prices on eBay, all hope is not lost. A spokesperson has confirmed IGA still stocks Starburst.
In the meantime, you can sign the change.org petition to bring them back to Coles and Woolworths!
