Try a different style of dessert with this steamed Japanese custard pudding. Using eggs, milk and sugar, these little delights are perfect for after dinner.
⅔ cup white sugar
⅓ cup water
1 egg yolk
¾ cup caster sugar
2 ½ cups warm milk
- Place white sugar and water into a small saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then increase heat and cook until golden. Pour between 6 greased ¾ cup ramekins.
- Whisk eggs, egg yolk, caster sugar and warm milk. Divide between moulds. Place the moulds into a large steamer basket (see tips, below). Cover and steam for 15-20 min. Serve with fruit if desired.
